Poptopus is a music widget that pays every time a song is played, instead of only when it’s purchased.

The Internet marketing media continues to evolve at hectic speed. We should commend those brilliant marketers to come out with innovative ideas to reach the target audience.

Look at this latest idea of the advertisers paying the publishers by just installing a small widget in our blog with music embedded in it. Whenever your blog has a visitor, they listen to the music from the widget without lifting their finger.

Do you know that you can place this widget even in your myspace profile?

Mashable views this in a different perspective. "The widget itself is rather small, and includes a video player on the top for advertisements to play before the songs. This is somewhat confusing, as many viewers may mistake the music widget for a video widget instead (the screen goes black once the song begins). The Poptopus widget is also smart to include direct links to an advertiser’s website during the commercial, as well as links to the artists’ website and to the location where their songs can be bought, which are available at all times."

In all, the Poptopus model for monetizing widgets could prove a smart one as it offers something for nearly everyone. I’m curious to see if they will support music videos in the same manner as songs, as well as different types of advertising, such as images and audio commercials.

I went to the website of Poptopus but could not find any sign up link. I emailed them about my concern, got a reply the next day that they will launch it after a few weeks only. They also informed that my email id is kept in the waiting list.
